A Day in Seaton
Here are some suggestions for those who are visiting Seaton for the day or staying for just a few hours. All directions are from the coach park/Tourist Information Centre, with approximate timings. If you have any questions please contact the Tourist Information Centre. Please take a look at the local map of Seaton map to help you.
Walk to Cliff Field Gardens and see the Labyrinth - a 15 mins walk west, taking in some of the esplanade with a short steep climb to get you to the gardens and the labyrinth. Seating available from which to admire the lovely coastal views.
Walk to Seaton Hole - at least a 20 mins walk west, along the esplanade and either, via the beach (depending on tide) or up and over via the Cliff Field Gardens. Stop for refreshments at one of the cafes (one at the end of the esplanade and one at Seaton Hole itself). There are public conveniences alongside each café but they may not be open all year round.
See the Jubilee Gardens and have a go at Putting – a 10 mins walk west, see the Gardens plus the Jubilee Clock Tower. Go behind the clock tower to the Putting Green, children’s play area and tennis courts.
Walk to the Harbour – a 15 mins walk east to the Harbour. The Harbour is a busy community and see it via a stroll across the oldest surviving concrete bridge in Britain. From there you can continue your walk along the banks of the River Axe or admire the estuary from the modern bridge and road. Unfortunately there are no public conveniences at the Harbour but refreshments are available.
Take a trip on the Seaton Tramway to Colyton – board right opposite the coach park for a minimum 2 hour all weather trip along the Seaton Marshes and Axe Valley, including time for coffee on the Colyton Station platform. Plenty to see with a wide variety of birds and wildlife. Lunches are available at Colyton but include this time in your visit. Trams run every 20 mins from both ends.
Walk to the bird hide along Seaton Marshes – access is from the car park, by the Tourist Information Centre. Level 20 mins walk along the Seaton Marshes, and to the hide which is beside the River Axe. Numerous birds and wildlife to see.
Take a trip to Beer on the Land Train – one of the Land Train stops is in the coach park. The train goes at regular intervals throughout the day. 45 mins each way to the picturesque fishing village of Beer. Spend time in Beer and catch the Land Train back again - a sedate but very scenic journey.
Visit the Seaton Museum – 5 mins walk
from the coach park, up the incline of Fore Street, next to the Town Hall. The
museum is a must for those wishing to understand the history of Seaton from the
Romans and before. Photos and interactive media plus enthusiastic volunteers to
help. Open from mid May until Oct. www.seatonmuseum.co.uk
Walk part or all of the Seaton Heritage Trail – part or all of this trail can be walked. This is a 20 mins to 4 hours circular trek around the countryside, estuary and coastline around Seaton. The Tourist Information sells a leaflet for 40p that covers the walk including interesting things to see en route.
